What to do if you are being Harassed in the Workplace?

When you go to work each day, you have plenty of work-related things on your mind. Just like anyone else in your company, you want to impress management so you can take on more responsibility and move up the corporate ladder. But when you have to deal with harassment in the workplace, it affects your performance and jeopardizes your future. If you are being harassed, you should know the steps you need to take to get rid of that kind of unwanted behavior.

Catalog As Many Incidents As Possible

One of the most difficult things for harassment victims to do is catalog the incidents of harassment that they suffer, but cataloging incidents is a critical part of getting justice. If your aggressor is headed your way, casually turn on the audio recorder on your smartphone to capture the conversation. You might even install a small camera and microphone at your desk that you keep on in case your aggressor decides to show up in your cubicle. Recording incidents is extremely important when trying to make a harassment claim. Save text messages and emails.

Talk To Your Manager About The Reporting Process

While you are collecting data and proof, you will want to tell your manager what you have been experiencing. You will also need to report the harassment to human resources. It is important to continue to document what is going on when you go to your manager and human resources because if your manager tries to cover up your harassment, then you will need to go to resources outside of the company.

Go As Far As You Can With Your Company

Always keep copies of everything you submit to your manager and human resources department when it comes to your harassment report. If you do not get any answers from your manager, then start asking for answers. If your manager is not giving you answers, then start asking human resources. If your company is not cooperating, there is only so much you can do before you have to take your own actions.

If your company is not responding to your harassment claims, then come talk to one of our experienced sexual harassment attorneys. We will offer you a confidential initial meeting where we will discuss your situation and give you all of your options. We want to be the legal team you use to get the justice you deserve for what an aggressor in your workplace put you through.
